I have a healthcare enterprise application based on J2EE which is under agile development. This application is currently in production and working on distributed database over MYSQL 5.1 community edition and SQL Server 2008 R2. The challenge that I'm facing now is that I got in confuse between migrating MYSQL database to Amazon RDS, or keep the it self hosted.
Going into AWS RDS will lose the control over the hosting operating system in addition to database cluster setup.
Keeping MySQL self hosted gives me full control over the hosting operating system, and database cluster type in which facilitates database maintenance, supporting issues, discovering database bugs, OS related bugs, and finding suitable workaround for these.
Taking into consideration that this enterprise application has up and running release in production and various features are still under development; which solution should I go for it?
