How to use freemarker to create website / webapplication in java

I'm totally new to java web application. We only have seen some simple java and javafx coding but never web based. But i can't figure out where to begin to create dynamically websites with java using freemarker.

I follow following tutorial on vogella : http://ift.tt/1xdyLli But it only creates an output html.

I also finish a simple login tutorial but with jsp. So i know the very basics to create an dynamically websites in java

But every where i look they suggest i should replace jsp with freemarker. And how can i create a website with freemarker using glassFish .

A simple example in netbeans that would result in a website should help me out.
